Opportunity Summary The Assistant Plant Operator (APO) is responsible for operating and attending to equipment essential to:
The operation of a steam generating station equipped with associated water systems and ash removal systems The operation of a steam generating station equipped with SO2 removal systems.
This includes operating equipment necessary to unload, store, slake, and handle lime and lime slurry.
Machinery, equipment and tools used/or operated include:
Bottom ash system, economizer ash system, fly ash system, water pretreatment plant, demineralized water plant, acid and caustic system, batch waste system, precipitator and rappers, and auxiliary boiler / auxiliary steam system Lime slakers and unloading, grit removal system, lime conveyors and silos, river intake and river screens Materials:
Coal, fly ash, bottom ash, grease, acid, and caustic Lime, lime slurry, polymers, wastewater, and waste oil NAES Safe Safety is a core value of NAES and as a condition of employment, all employees are expected to be mentally alert and work safely at all times.

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions Physical requirements include heavy physical work, standing on feet for extended periods requiring stair and ladder climbing, and routinely lifting up to 50 pounds.
Must have the ability to wear personal protective equipment (e.
g.
hard hats, safety glasses, air masks, ear protection, respirator, self-contained breathing apparatus, etc.
).
Work with hazardous materials may be required.
Must have the ability and willingness to work in high places and confined spaces.
Work Schedule Position requires rotating shift work (modified Dupont schedule) including weekend and holiday work as required by schedules, workload and plant conditions.
On call status will periodically be required.
Fitness for Duty All employees will participate in the Fitness for Duty Program.
This program includes a post-offer physical examination and drug screening and post employment random drug screening.
There are extensive smoking restrictions in and around the project.
Compensation The initial hourly rate of pay is $33.

Job Qualifications A two-year degree in Power Plant Technology or Applied Science from an accredited college or university or the equivalent in education, training and experience is required Must possess a valid driver's license Must be able to pass the Edison Electrical Institute's POSS/MASS test Must be able to satisfactorily pass all specific Task Performance Evaluations within 18 months Must possess strong mechanical skills, abilities, aptitude and work experience for power station work Must demonstrate a questioning attitude to learn, produce results, and develop relationships Must have a working knowledge of the layout, purpose, and function of boilers, air quality control systems, fuel oil, pulverized coal systems and automatic combustion control; house service, boiler feed, fire protection, circulating, potable, make up, water systems, and auxiliary steam systems Must demonstrate power plant knowledge including operations, combustion, heat rate, generation and uses of steam, operations of high-pressure boiler and turbines, instrumentation, alternating current electrical equipment and controls, and applied electricity Must have a working knowledge of the safe use of tools used for routine repairs Must have a working knowledge of the rules, safety practices and procedures for clearing, blocking, tagging and valving equipment It is the practice of NAES to seek employees of the highest quality and to select the individuals on the basis of merit and competence, without regard to race, color, religion, national origin, sex, age, disability, military status or affiliation protected under USERRA, or any other basis of discrimination prohibited by applicable local, state and federal law.
